Great Calva is one of 253 mountain in England where the definition of a mountain is over 2000 feet.
Great Calva is in the Northern Fells region of the Lake District.
The cairn was probably contricted over the years by people visiting the summit and adding more stones to the cairn. The cairn was contructed around the original fence which has now been replaced by a new fence alongside the cairn. The old iron fence support still stands in the middle of the cairn.
As with all mountains it should only be tackled by the physically fit and those with the proper outdoor clothing and navigational aids such as a map and compass.
I approached it from Knott nad Little Calva. I went down off Great Calva down the steep grassy and heathery slope to the Cumbria Way.
