The rock formation consists of basanite. This is a basalt-like volcanic rock, which is produced by the rise of liquid molten rock (the magma, which is called lava when it reaches the Earth's surface). With the naked eye is the difference between each type of volcanic effusions not possible. Only a study in the laboratory allows to distinguish between the individual rocks.
