Renaissance fortress / castle was founded in 1582 by Zdenek of Wallenstein. The building was the highlight of architectural art of this time.
John Amos Comenius (visit link) lived here before leaving the Czech. During the era of Thirty Years War the castel belonged the Wallenstein family (visit link) .
During the war, the castle burned and destroyed. After the war, the mansion bought the Harrach family (visit link) . After 1945 the castle belonged to manage state institution. Since 1954 the castle belongs to the municipality Horní Branná. The castle houses a museum John Amos Comenius.
