Caldas de Monchique is a known spring and spa in the Algarve. Very close to this phone box there´s a spring house where the water comes out hot and with a "funny smell". Nevertheless, the waters are good to drink (there´s a bottling plant further down the road) and are famous since Roman times for it´s healing properties.
