Scientific activities of the Institute of Analytical Chemistry AS CR, v.v.i. are focused on the research and development in the field of analytical methods. The main research directions are related to the rapid expansion of knowledge in biological sciences, especially in genomics, proteomics, medicine, human health and environmental protection. Activities of the Institute contribute to improvements in general knowledge and level of education. Research results are published in scientific journals and books. Some of them are registered as patents.
The Institute provides expertise, attitudes and recommendations, offers consultations and advisory services. Besides the research activities the Institute is strongly involved in training of both undergraduate and graduate students, supervising their diploma and Ph.D. theses, and in teaching at universities. The Institute also organizes international scientific meetings, conferences and workshops.

Predmetem hlavní cinnosti Ústavu analytické chemie AV CR, v.v.i. je vedecký výzkum v oblasti analytické chemie, zejména výzkum analytických a bioanalytických mikrometod, nanometod a metod pro stanovení stopových koncentrací látek a vývoj prístrojové techniky jako základu ke zvýšení poznání a metodologické úrovne dalších vedních disciplín vcetne genomiky, proteomiky, biotechnologií, prumyslové cinnosti a ochrany zdraví a životního prostredí.
Svou cinností pracovište prispívá ke zvyšování úrovne poznání a vzdelanosti a k využití výsledku vedeckého výzkumu v praxi. Výsledky výzkumu publikuje ve vedeckých casopisech a knihách a patentuje. Pracovište poskytuje vedecké posudky, stanoviska a doporucení a provádí konzultacní a poradenskou cinnost. Ve spolupráci s vysokými školami uskutecnuje doktorské a magisterské studijní programy a vychovává vedecké pracovníky. Podílí se na výuce formou prednáškové cinnosti, vedení laboratorních cvicení a prípravou výukových materiálu. Porádá domácí i mezinárodní vedecká setkání, konference a semináre.
