Boston is perhaps the most European of American cities, so it's not surprising to find an authentic English style pub in the downtown area that displays a classic pictorial pub sign. The Bell In Hand Tavern, located on the corner of Hancock and Union Streets, was established in 1795 by Jimmy Wilson - America's last know town crier, hence the name. It bills itself as America's oldest continuously operating tavern. Paul Revere, Daniel Webster and William McKinley all were patrons of the tavern. One of the original Bell In Hand sign hangs in Boston's Old City Hall.
