The first permanent daily newspaper continually published in the area is The Decatur Daily founded in 1912. Originally called Decaturs Daily (at the time the town was divided, Decatur and New Decatur) with Mr. W.R. Shelton as general manager. After World War I new equipment was added to the plant and in 1928 The Decatur Daily moved to its present location at Johnston St. and First Ave. Barrett Shelton, Sr. succeeded his father as publisher when he passed away in 1924, and now Barrett Shelton, Jr. and Clint Shelton are publishers.
