"The Trumpeter of Säckingen" was a famous novel by Joseph Victor von Scheffel.

"After passing the state examination for admission to the judicial service, he graduated Doctor juris and for four years (1848-1852) held an official position at the town of Säckingen. Here he wrote his poem Der Trompeter von Säckingen (The trumpeter of Saeckingen) (1853), a romantic and humorous tale which immediately gained extraordinary popularity. It has reached more than 250 editions and was made into an opera by Viktor Nessler in 1884." (Wikipedia)

His inspiration, the true love story between the noble lady von Schönau and the commoner Franz Werner Kirchhofer happened in the 17th century in Säckingen.

The statue is located at the south entrance of the castle of the family von Schönau. The castle is now a museum that holds one of Europe's largest trumpet collections. A nice example how fiction can have its influence back to reality.
