The Palais Municipal (Municipal Palace) was an administrative building with several reception rooms located in the Place d'Armes. The building was completed in October 1906 and furnished by 1909.
The main façade of the Palais Municipal, commonly known as the "Cercle" (Circle), features a frieze by the Luxembourg artist P. Federspiel, portraying Countess Ermesinde handing down the "Charter of Emancipation" in 1244. This document guaranteed the people freedoms and defined duties to the nobility.
Between 1953 and 1969, representatives from the European Coal and Steel Community met here. Since 1969, the Palais Municipal is once again serving as a meeting place for various celebrations and ceremonies, as well as for cultural events.
