The age old words of the scriptures are preserved in polished stone on the Knights of Columbus lawn. The north side holds God’s Ten Commandments that he handed down to Moses in the book of Exodus.

“I. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. You shall have no other gods beside me.

II. You shall not take the name of the Lord in vain. For the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

III. Remember to keep holy the Sabbath Day. Six days you shall labor and do all your work; but the seventh day is the Sabbath to the Lord your God.

IV. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

V. You shall not kill.

VI. You shall not commit adultery.

VII. You shall not steal.

VIII. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

IX. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.

X. You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.”

Beneath the Commandments is Jesus’ additional command: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. And the second is like this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22: 37-39.

The south side of the monument display the Beatitudes that Jesus spoke in his Sermon on the Mount.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when they insult you and persecute you and utter every kind of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad; for your reward is great in heaven.” Matthew 5:3-11
