The Visitors Center is located along the Mt. Rose Scenic Byway and is surrounded on three sides by by the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

Located at the juncture of two ecosystems high desert and alpine, the location provides the ideal backdrop for environmental education in both desert and mountain habitats. Programs are developed with all ages in mind to promote an increased public appreciation with wise use of the many natural and recreational resources of the area. The center is staffed by volunteers of the Great Basin Institute to provide educational and interpretive programming about the natural and cultural history of the region. Other interpretive exhibits and a retail store are located inside. Picnic tables, an information kiosk and a half-mile paved nature trail are located just outside the center. Access to other hiking trails and the Mt. Rose Wilderess are nearby.

Visitors should visit the Nature Center and post a photo of themselves (or GPS unit) either inside or outside of the nature center visited. Logs without photos WILL be allowed if a lenghty description of one's visit and a mention of what they learned is included.
