The statue of The Little Mermaid (Den Lille Havfrue) is perched on a rock in Copenhagen Harbor. The figure is based on the beloved fairy by Hans Christian Andersen. The statue is surprisingly small; 1.25 only meters high and about 175 kg, yet it's a Copenhagen icon and a major tourist attraction.
The statue was commissioned in 1909 by Carl Jacobsen. The sculptor was Edvard Eriksen. The bronze statue was unveiled on 23 August 1913.
