The sign above the entrance that says "365 years Bad Bubendorf" is a little cheat. The general area with the mineral spring was first mentioned then, it took another 100 years until the first hotel Bad Bubendorf was built in 1742; because of structural damages it had to be replaced with a new building around 1770.

The hotel became famous in 1830. 25 angry countrymen met here on October 18, to start their fight for equal rights for the agricultural areas in the canton of Basel. This lead to political quarrels and an armed conflict and finally ended in the formal secession of the canton Basel-Landschaft from the city of Basel in 1833.

In 1837 they opened a spa for several decades but this was stopped by the end of the 19th century.

In 1880 a railway line was built with a station just opposite the hotel. The line is still working and on five dates every summer even with a steam train.

In 1979 the hotel was renovated and listed as a protected building. In 2007 a modern annex was built with another 26 rooms (plus 30 rooms in the historic part), an additional restaurant and several seminar rooms.
