This building is on the corner of Cheam Common Road and London Road a major road junction. A very good example of commercial Art Deco development.
The initials WJL and the date they were built, 1934, is above the tall windows.
W.J.Lavender (who also built the residential properties in the surrounding area known as the Lavender Estate) was part of an important local family who had farmed the nearby (now gone) Lower Farm since 1896.
A basic post office which has four counters and in recent years has included a small “general store”.
Open 9:00 to 5:30 weekdays and 9:00 to 12:30 Saturdays.
