My son and I absolutely love trains, so whenever we're in Smiths Falls we always stop by the RMEO (Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario). They have a great deal of history, not only in trains, but in tons of archival material and things such as lanterns, telegraph displays, a retro ticket booth, etc. Just about anything you can think of is here. The focus is on Canadian Railways, but that's okay, there's lots to see. The price is right as well and there's always special events going on and if you're willing, opportunities to volunteer. So if you're a railfan like me and my son, this is the place to come in Eastern Ontario. Plus when your done, you can go to the VIA station in town that happens to be right beside the CP Yard.
