The World Famous Green Tortoise Adventure Travel company began over 30 years ago, with one sturdy bus and the realization that beautiful places, great food, and sociable people were the only essentials for exciting and satisfying travel experiences. The Green Tortoise hostels in San Francisco and Seattle are built on this fine tradition. The Green Tortoise San Francisco and Seattle hostels purposely stimulate a social communal experience. Some friends will remember fondly the old Green Tortoise Hostel on 2nd Ave. in Seattle - but the landlord of that building had some renovation ideas of his own . So, time marches on, and the Green Tortoise evolves to meet and encourage a whole new world of travelers ... while the old landlord was busy knocking down the old green tortoise, we were busy building the best hostel in the world, a super hostel right around the corner ... where every bed is a micro habitat ... that comes with a curtain for a little visual privacy, and a "reading light and a fan" for your comfort and so you can read without disturbing your neighbors (insert picture of finished reading light)... and two extra power points to charge your laptop or cell phone ... this meant a complete upgrade to the building's electrical system.
While we had the walls open we put in a silent state of the art, including radiant heated floors in all the bathrooms. We know how important it is to go out and have fun, but we also know how critical it is to be warm and cozy when you get back to the hostel.
All 18 of our bathrooms are semi-private. They are individual bathrooms that you enter off the hallway ... This means you never have to wait to use a bathroom, even at morning rush hour, and you don't have to go into a gang bathroom like most big hostels and worry about your clothes and stuff out on the bench, while you shower ... In our hostels you are the only one in the bathroom when you are using it - unless you choose to save water and shower with a friend. Once you close and lock the door, you will have everything you need to clean up for a day of exploring or a night on the town. Speaking of saving water, our dual flush toilets from Austraila are state of the art water savers . We say go green ... and stay someplace nice and clean - We have made sure you have unlimited hot water - and when you add radiant heated bathroom floors it all add to your beautiful hosteling experience ... this is just one of many ways that the Green Tortoise has created, to make your time with us top of the line.
