Marbach is best known as the birthplace of Friedrich Schiller, although he didn't stay here very long. It's otherwise a picturesque walled city with many carefully restored half-timbered houses.
The house which sits behind this fountain was restored in 1986. During the restoration, a bunch of old gold coins dating back to the 14th century and belonging to the owner of the house at that time, was found stashed away in a hidden place. It represents a veritable fortune in life savings. The statue of the man holding the fish represents holding on to something which can easily slip away, such as money.
