This striking and inspirational sculpture depicts two brothers, one fighting for the south and one for the north, meeting on the battlefield in the Korean war and embracing. It is located at the large War Memorial complex in Seoul.

There are many monuments and memorials within the grounds of the Korea War Memorial, along with dozens of pieces of military equipment on display and an impressive museum. The focus is on the Korean War, but Korea's role in other wars throughout history up through the war in Viet Nam and the modern area are also commemorated here.
Without a doubt, this is one of the most impressive pieces, not only because of its size which dominates the southwest corner of the grounds, but because of the poignant reality it represents. The tragic ware divided not only the country itself, but families - brothers. The "Brothers Statue" represents the desire for reconciliation and reunification.
The Statue of Brothers

The Statue of Brothers is an 19-meter wide and 11-meter high symbol
of the Korean War. It consists of the upper part and inner part.
the upper part of the statue depicts a scene where a family’s older brother,
a ROK officer, and his younger brother, a North Korean soldier, meet in a
battlefield and express reconciliation, love, and forgiveness.
The lower tomb-shaped dome was built with pieces of granite collected
from nationwide locations symbolizing the sacrifices made by our patriots.
the crack in the dome stands for the division of Korea and the hope for
reunification.
Objects inside the dome include a mosaic wall painting that expresses the
spirit of the Korean people to overcome the national tragedy and a map
plate of the 16 UN Allied Nations that dispatched troops to the war. Links
of iron chain on the ceiling signify the unbreakable bonds of a unified Korea.

6.25 전쟁을 상징하는 ‘형제의 상’ 조형물은 직경이 18m 이고 높이는
11m로써, 상부 . 하부 . 내부로 구성되어 있다.
상부의 청동상은 6.25전쟁 당시 한국군과 북한군의 형제가 원주 치악
고개 전투에서 극적으로 만난 순간을 재연한 것니다. 총을 어깨에 메고
철모를 쓴 장교는 형으로서 한국군 제8사단 제16연대의 박규철 소위
이고, 그 형에게 얼싸안긴 이민군 복장의 병사는 북한군 제8사단 제83연대
박용철 하전사이다. 적대 의사가 없는 형이 어린 아우를 품에 안은 모습
에서 화해와 사랑, 용서의 의미를 엿볼 수 있다.
하부의 반구형 돔은 국민적 총화단결의 의미로 전국에서 수집한 화강석
조각으로 고분의 이미지를 살려 쌓았는데, 이는 수많은 순국선열들의
희생을 나타낸 것이다. 그리고 동서쪽으로 찢어진 돔이 위로 갈수록 아물
어진 상태는 분단의 상처가 치유되어 남북통일이 이루어질 것임을 암시
하고 있다.
반구형의 돔 내부에는 모자이크 벽화와 6.25전쟁 당시 전투부대를
파병한 유엔군 참전 16개국의 지도 조형판이 설치되어다. 벽화 중
남쪽은 민족의 얼을 표현한 작품이며, 북쪽의 벽화는 6.25전쟁의 국난을
전 국민이 총력으로 극복한 것을 나타낸 젓이다. 천장에 여러 개의 쇠줄로
엮어 놓은 것은 남북이 다시는 분단되지 않도록 하는 통일의 결속을 표출
한 것이며, 갈라진 틈을 메우고 있는 스테인드글라스는 우리 민족의 피와
땀, 슬픔과 환희를 표현한 작품이다.
