The Place:Casa Amatller is a building in the Modernisme style in Barcelona, designed by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. Along with Casa Batlló and Casa Lleó-Morera, it makes up the three most important buildings in Barcelona's famous Illa de la Discòrdia ("Block of Discord"), noted for its unique modernist buildings.
The building was originally designed as a residence for chocolatier Antoni Amatller and was constructed between 1898 and 1900.

The Person: Amatller Antoni Costa (Barcelona, 1851 - id., 1910) was an industrialist and chocolatier, art collector and photographer, the son of a family of chocolate makers that dates back to 1797.
Formed in the profession in Switzerland and Belgium. Interested in painting and drawing since his youth, combined its industrial and commercial activity and the direction of his chocolate company to collecting and photography. Member of the Association Belge de Photographie de Bruxelles, won various awards for photography. The theme of these reports constitute their separate trips to Europe, North Africa and Middle East. He excelled in portraiture and traditional photography.
As a collector is the importance of his extensive collection of Roman glass and decorated glass, one of the largest privately owned in Spain.
Her house, the Casa Amatller (1900), is a great modernist work of Barcelona. At the same is the Amatller Institute of Hispanic Art, created by his daughter Teresa Amatller, which preserves the photographic material Amatller Antoni and much of his art collection.
