This pub, not surprisingly is the near the harbour, in the small town of Porthmadog, in North Wales.

Y Llong is the Welsh for The Ship.

These days most if not all boats in the harbours are privately owned pleasure vessels. However the pub and the sign date back to when the port used to export slate all over the world. The nearby hillsides in this area produced high quality slate, still one of the best materials for waterproofing rooves.

Presumably the ship represents a working ship from the harbour.

It became a Grade II listed building 26th September 2005.
