When the Civic Center needed a parking garage, it was proposed to tear down this restaurant. Goldwater insisted the restaurant remain. On the edge of historic downtown Scottsdale, this iconic building with its Aztec head soaring above the building, has been serving food for 61 years. The iconic head was created around 1956 by Jesus Corral from plaster and chicken wire. The restaurant is a downtown staple serving tourists and residents alike. Lately folks have said the quality is starting to slip. Hopefully that turns around soon.
