The Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (IHBT) was founded in Prague in 1952 as an institute under the Czech Ministry of Health to provide state-of-art transfusion medicine and diagnostic and therapeutic care in hematology with an emphasia on molecular explanations and solutions to disease. The focus has been to improve diagnosis and treatment of hematologic diseases. Excellence in research is an inseparable goal in the mission of the institute.
