Maebashi is the capital of Maebashi Prefecture and sits in the middle of the Kanto Plain in central Honshu, Japan's largest island. Protected by a ring of mountains, it has a milder climate than nearby areas. The beautiful Tone River runs through the middle of the city. An annual Daruma Festival is held each January.
