The Thames Barrier Park
On the north bank of the Thames and with stunning views of the awesome flood Barrier lies a jewel in the crown of London's parks. Thames Barrier Park lies in Silvertown, and is supported by the London Development Agency.
Set within 22 acres of lawns, trees and hedges, the waterside park features fountains, gardens, wildflower meadows, a children's play area and a 5-a-side football/basketball court, with magnificent views of the barrier.
The history of the Thames Barrier Park
In 1995 the London Docklands Development Corporation launched an international competition to create one of London’s largest and loveliest riverside parks. The winning consortium was architect Patel Taylor in collaboration with Group Signers and engineers Ove Aarum.
The Lord Mayor of London, the Rt Hon Richard Nichols planted the first tree in January 1998 and the Mayor of London, Ken Livingston, officially opened the park in November 2000. It has since won design awards in the UK and USA.
