The St. Stephen Chocolate Festival was began in 1985 to celebrate the town's chocolate heritage. The Ganong Bros. Limited has been making chocolate here since 1873. In 2000, St. Stephen was officially registered as Canada’s Chocolate Town.
The Chocolate Festival is a town-wide celebration of events, activities, contests, and all things chocolate related. Activities are held around the town. Central to the celebration is the Chocolate Museum which opened in 1999 and expanded as the Chocolate Discovery Centre in 2009. The Chocolate Mousse, his lovely wife Tiffany and their adopted baby Teddy are the beloved and popular Chocolate Festival mascots.
There is no admission for walking around the town, mingling with the locals, enjoying the samples, watching the crafters, and meeting the festival mascots; the Chocolate Mousse, his wife Tiffany and their adopted baby Teddy. Many special events are held through the week which have various prices.
