The Iowa State Capital has 5 domes constructed from iron and brick, the largest one in the middle. This central dome displays the image of the Grand Army of the Republic reunion badge with a 13-star flag. The impressive medallion is surrounded by lights, windows, and allegorical murals. The 23 karat gold leaf has been recently restored.
