The main building was built in 1754 based on plans by the Italian architect Nicolau Nasoni. It was built by the families of Noronha and Menezes. His work remained unfinished. The building was designed along three floors connected by stairs with four towers, of which only one was built. Doors, balconies and windows are made of granite, decorated in baroque style

The garden features a maze (the largest in the Iberian Peninsula), obelisks, statues and a lake with a small castle.

One of the main highlights is the main entrance where the plaque lies, richly decorated with a quite detailed and large family crest and two columns at the sides featuring two sirens of stone.

In 1904 it became property of the Catholic Church as a gift.
