In 1987 there was a big hurricane in the UK that caused thousands upon thousands of trees to be uprooted. A major re-planting process began and this plaque records part of the process carried out by dignataries of the two towns.

"This plaque, installed on 16 June 2003 commemorates the 37th anniversary of the twinning of Reinickendorf, Berlin, with Greenwich and the occasion in December 1989, when the Burgermeister of Reinickendorf and the Mayor of Greenwich planted the first of this avenue of cherry trees. Donated by Borsig Gmbh of Reinickendorf after the great hurricane of 1987."
