The cairn was placed to mark the 100th anniversary of professional engineering in Canada. It is dedicated to the engineers and surveyors who set out the survey framework which allowed the orderly development of western Canada.

Difference between the post coordinates and your GPSr reading:
My coordinates N51 4' 47.5" W114 7' 54.6" Posted coordinates N51 4' 48" W114 7' 55" Rounding...as no doubt there instruments were more accurate than my handheld, although 23 years later perhaps the Garmin is more accurate
