Old Glenelg Town Hall, South Australia - City and Town Halls on Waymarking.com

Glenelg is the site of landing by Governer Hindmarsh and Colonel Light in 1836 when searching for a site to build a Capital for the new colony of South Australia. This made Glenelg the second (and fist mainland) settlement in South Australia.
Construction of the former Glenelg Town Hall commenced in 1875 and the hall was opened in 1877 as The Glenelg Institute, it contained lecture rooms, a concert hall and library.
Designed by Edmund Wright it was built by David Miller at a cost of 6000 pounds. The clocktower & clock were added at a later date.
In 1887 the Glenelg Council bought the building and used it as the town hall.
In 1997 the Glenelg and Brighton councils amalgamated to form the Holdfast Bay Council and the Glenelg Town Hall was no longer used.
In 2000 it became 'The Bay Discovery Centre' historical museum.
