The municipalities of Basel (Switzerland), Weil am Rhein (Germany) and Huningue (France) as well as about 15 other towns in all three countries are completely grown together and build one single urban agglomeration spread across three countries. An iron pylon marks the location of the tripoint that has become the center of tri-national region over the decades. The monument is much older (I could not find any date), it has been awarded a Sri Chinmoy Peace Blossom in 1997.

The plaque is German and French and can be read on the picture. An English excerpt:
"Dreiländereck" joins the Sri Chinmoy International Peace Blossoms, a family of over 500 eminent and inspiring landmarks dedicated to the universally cherished goal of peace.
The Peace Blossoms are named after Sri Chinmoy, eminent world peace lover and peace-server, for this tireless dedication to the ideal of world harmony.
"Dreiländereck" was originally a simple geographical marker and has evolved into a monument for connection and solidarity. The location in the river is a symbol for stability through unity in the flow of time.
May all visitors be reminded that true harmony begins with true will for peace in the heart of every single one.
May this be a place of international encounter where visitors are inspired by the border-crossing ideas and activities to work towards a peaceful global coexistence.
