The Aquia wastewater treatment plant is an advanced treatment facility that employs the Schreiber low-load counter-current aeration process to provide biological nutrient removal (BNR) of nitrogen, chemical addition (aluminum sulfate) and settling to remove phosphorus, and rapid gravity filtration to increase removal of oxygen demanding materials and suspended solids. This is followed by ultraviolet light (UV) disinfection.
