general Information about the park from brasiliabrazil.info:

"Chapada" is Portuguese for "plateau," and this is the distinctive characteristic that gives the park its name, "Chapada Imperial Park," or Imperial Plateau Park in English.

Chapada Imperial Park is part of the Cafuringa Environmental Protection Area. This is a wild area designated and maintained by the Brazilian government, and it is one of the largest in the continent of South America. The unique geology of the region, with plateaus rising out of the flat savannah plains, makes it a unique sight worth seeing.

You have to drive a little way to get there. Chapada Imperial Park is located about 50 kilometers out of Brasilia, and some of the driving can be pretty rough. It is a trip, but it is well worth it.

Chapada Imperial Park is full of stunning waterfalls and natural swimming pools where you can go for a dip. There are trails that take you right through the waterfalls, and you can rent mountain bikes and go biking. Along the scrub-filled valleys, there are giant rock outcroppings that make natura caves in the rock wall. And twisting and winding its way through the park is the Two Brothers Creek.

The park is open from 8 to 6 every day. There is a guided tour that takes you through all the sights of Chapada Imperial Park. A travel guide leads you through the park's most spectacular sights, with stops along the way to bathe in the clear waters or go diving. It is an all day tour, from 9-5:30, so those who take it are advised to bring sun protection and snacks. Lunch is provided.

If you'd rather explore the park on your own, there is trekking, mountain biking and even rappling. You can satisfy your adventure travel cravings at Chapada Imperial Park.

To get to the park, take highway DF-220 from Brasilia. It is approximately 50 kilometers from the city. The last 16 are unpaved and a little rough.

It is well worth the journey to see Chapada Imperial Park. It is not too much of a drive outside of the city, and it makes a great Brasilia day trip. Chapada Imperial Park is one of the sights you don't want to miss when you're taking in the attractions of Brasilia. With its magnificent waterfalls, savannah valleys, caves and wildlife, it will give you a breather from the city.
