It was renamed in 1975 to honor Dr, Rafael S, Tumbokon who was instrumental in the effort to establish Aklan as a separate province from Capiz, His legislative bill in 1934 was ultimately defeated my the newly formed commonwealth government under Quezon the next year, and it wasn’t until 1954 that his dream became a reality, Dr, Tumbokon also established Melchor Memorial School, one of two privated secondary schools in Aklan,
