At Park Avenue and Broadway in downtown Oklahoma City, a plaza between the historic Skirvin Hotel and the second tallest building in Oklahoma City, the 36-floor Cotter Ranch Tower (Chase Tower) is the site of a life-sized replica of the 17 ft. tall sculpture which stands on the dome of the Capitol Building. For all those who have seen this magnificent sculpture atop the dome and wanted a closer look, now is your chance.
Standing in a landscaped area in front of the Skirvin Hotel is a bronze replica of The Guardian. The sculptor, Enoch Kelly Haney (1940- ), is the son of full blood Seminole and Creek Indian parents. This replica was commissioned by the Oklahoma City Rotary Club in honor of its 100th anniversary and dedicated in November, 2010.
A plaque on the base of the sculpture reads: "2010 - 2011 / Presented to the citizens of Oklahoma City by the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City in recognition of the Club's Centennial / 1910 - 2010 / Clayton C. Taylor, Centennial President"
The sculpture is life-sized and shows a Native American, dressed in a loin cloth, holding a shield in his left hand and a tall spear in his right. The warrior is looking to the right. "He embodies the diversity within the proud and strong population of Oklahoma
while serving as a reminder of surviving tumultuous times."
