This historic old mounting block gives a taste of Iowa pioneer life. It is located behind the barn at the Calliope Village museum in Hawarden. One can just imagine this block assisting townspeople onto their horses (these things are never around when I need them!). The barn’s history dates back to 1882 when it was located just off 10th Street; it was moved to Calliope Village in 1986.
