FINAL UPDATE: 10/23/2012
The last of the Devon employees were moved into the building this month, and an official Building Opening was celebrated on 10/23/2012 - a ceremony with the mayor and Devon officials. The building is complete and is a wonderful sight in the OKC sky. It rises far above any buildings around it, and at night, the building's lighted panels at the top, and changing colored lights along the vertical edges, are quite a sight to see.

The top two floors contain "Vast" a restaurant open to the public, featuring American food (steaks and seafood), and a fantastic view on all sides. On the ground floor, you can visit "Nebu", an informal food court, serving the standard pizza, sandwiches and salads. Come one, come all to see a Wonder of the Oklahoma Sky.

Devon World Headquarters, LLC, a subsidiary of Oklahoma City based Devon Energy Corporation has undertaken what will be a building of extraordinary stature. On the North side of Sheridan, west of the historic Colcord Building and across the street from the City's beautiful Myriad Gardens, construction began in October 2009. The building is expected to be completed in December 2012.

Devon will have substantially changed the skyline of Oklahoma City with this 50-story glass tower with its 1,800,000 square feet of space. At a cost of an estimated $750 million, this 850 ft. tower will become the tallest building in Oklahoma, the second tallest west of the Mississippi (the first being Dallas' Bank of America Plaza), and one of the top 30 tallest in the United States.

Atlanta-based General Contractor Holder Construction Comapny, in partnership with local Flintco are building this tower, which was designed by Pickard Chilton Architects, Inc. This is a three-sided glass tower with diamond-shaped faces at the top. A 100 ft x 100 ft. glass rotunda will be constructed alongside the tower, as well as a six-story "Podium" which will contain auditoriums, classrooms and offices. There will be reflecting pools at the base of the tower, and a transparent wall to allow pedestrians to see into the tower lobby.

Each of the 50 floors of the building will contain 25,000-28,000 square feet of space to house the 3,000 Devon employees, consultants and contractors. It is their plan for the ground level of the building to be the "Heart of Downtown" offering the public restaurants and shops.

As this posting, the building stands about 40 stories. There are 400+ workers on the building each day and construction is progressing at about one floor per 8 days.

NEWS STORY: April 24, 2011 - Two men arrested when they parachuted from the top of the partially completed Devon Tower on Easter Sunday morning. (visit link)

UPDATE: 9/1/11 - We understand that the concrete floors have been completed. The live cam shows that the glass still needs to be completed on the top five floors...and then the three slanted glass diamond-shaped planes need to be constructed.

UPDATE: 12/2/11 - A topping out celebration was conducted on 9/21/11 when the building reached its final height. The glass facade is currently being added to the top 2 or 3 floors, after which the slanting glass panels will be added at the top. See gallery for an aerial view we took this past month.

UPDATE: 4/28/12 - Tower is lit up at night - quite a sight. Interior work being completed - not occupied yet. See gallery for night shots.

UPDATE: 10/22/12 - Devon employees moved in this past summer. Building has changing colored light strips at its corners, which are quite a sight to see at night (see photo gallery)
