This fun auto is in the children’s play area of the Harrison County Historical Village and Welcome Center just east of Missouri Valley. Like the interpretive displays about the Lincoln Highway that are seen throughout the facility, this car cut-out is designed to help children understand the importance of the historical road which crosses our country from New York to San Francisco. The play area includes a winding roadway, directional arrows and a series of “Burma Shave” signs that were popular before billboards dotted our highways.
The village museum also has constructed a handicap-accessible observation deck with the statistics of the highway: "13 States" (number of states the historic Lincoln Highway goes through), "3,389 Mi." (length of the Lincoln Highway across the U.S.), "Lincoln Highway" and "Est. 1913" (year the Lincoln Highway idea was started). A sign in the shelter gives much of the history, and there’s a short video in the Welcome Center that gives more details about the beginning of this road.
This museum and visitor center are located east of Missouri Valley on Hwy. 30, the Lincoln Highway.
