Military monument, built in 1665, in the reign of King Pedro II to celebrate the glorious victory of the battle of Montes Claros, restoring Portugal independence from Spain wich was fought here.

The monument has classical a Baroque characteristics and is built of white marble from the region. The column, like the capital, is in Tuscan (unfluted) style and is set on a decorated base and torus. At the top here is a decorated plinth which terminates in a closed crown.

Classified as National Monument in 1910.
