The old ship bank was opened in 1760 to serve the booming maritime community of the Aberystwyth Port. This building it still known as 'the old bank' but now is a residential dwelling.
This bank is the oldest in Aberystwyth and possibly the whole of Wales, as records from Swansea's maritime bank are lost due to a fire, so its opening date cannot be confirmed.
