The elegant and monumental equestrian statue of King Restorative measures six meters above the plinth, is the work of bronze by the sculptor Francisco Franco (1885 - 1955) while the granite pedestal is the risk of the architect Pardal Monteiro (1897 - 1957) .

According Sant'Anna Dionysus, the sculptor tried, it seems, somehow reconstruct the spoken and very strong rider named "Baluarte" (Bulwark) D. John IV had to buy in Andalucia, a few months before the revolution of 1640, "the horse that was bought by a bulwark master of the horse of the Duke, Antonio Galvao de Andrade," enchanted by the greatness and security "and that she maintained such dignity the shows and parades "that looked like metal horse.
