This monument is a granite obelisk, about 4 ft tall and about 12 inches square at its base. It is a memorial marking the death site of Reverend Edward L. Parker. According to historical record, Rev. Parker was on his way home from a church service and was stricken suddenly at this location, on July 14, 1850.

Rev. Edward Lutywich Parker (July 28, 1785 - July 14, 1850) was a native of Litchfield, NH. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1807, and was ordained pastor of the East Parish of Londonderry (now Derry), NH in 1810. He remained pastor of the Presbyterian Church until his death.

Rev. Parker was instrumental in the beginnings of the renowned Pinkerton Academy in Derry.

Most significant is his historical account of Londonderry (and Derry), a highly detailed work that was published posthumously by his son, Edward Pinkerton Parker, in 1851. A link to the book is presented below.

My photos were taken just shortly after the 160th anniversary of his death. It is not immediately certain when this monument was set, or by whom.

The obelisk is located in Derry, on Rockingham Road (NH Route 28), about 0.5 mile east from the junction of Birch Street, Kendall Pond Road, and Windham Road (Shutes Corner), or 0.25 mile west from the junction of Island Pond Road and Main Street (NH Bypass Route 28). It is on the north side of the road, just west of a driveway to a self storage facility (All Around Storage).
