Manes Exhibition Hall was founded in 1930 as part of the Building Association of Fine Artists designed by Otakar Novotný.
Gallery created one of the landmarks of the Vltava banks. It soon became an architectural legend and one of the most important centers of social and cultural life.
The first exhibition in Manes was One Hundred Years of Czech art from 1830 to 1930.
The reconstruction, which substantially changed the original layout of the building occurred in 80 years. The large hall was extended to the front facade, parquet floor tiles replaced, covered walls, separation of the two halls were resolved by mobile partitions and new staircase linking the basement, where he was a former French restaurant and its facilities for additional exhibition space.
Total reconstruction of the building is planned for the years 2010-2012, the concept back to its original architectural and functional organization.
