The Philippine Expeditionary Force to Korea (Peftok) consisted of five Philippine Army Battalion Combat Teams (BCT) who fought in the war from 1950 to 1953 attached to U.S. military command and subsequently provided police force during the armistice period from 1954 to 1955 under the United Nations military command.

Seven thousand Filipino soldiers had served in the 10th, 20th, 19th, 14th, 2nd (BCT), had suffered 468 casualties (112 died; 356 wounded) and had won 600 military medals or decorations during the war and the armistice.

Philippine Army officers included Lt. Fidel V. Ramos, the future President of the Philippines. War journalists included Benigno Aquino, the future husband of President Corazon Aquino and Atty. Johnny F. Villasanta, twice recipient of Philippines Legion of Honor.

FILIPINO-KOREAN SOLDIER MONUMENT
필리핀 – 한국 우정의 탑

A fitting tribute to the Filipino Soldiers who fought side by side with the Korean soldiers during the Korean War. (1950-1953) About 7,500 combat troops known as the Philippine Expeditionary Forces To Korea or PEFTOK, the 4th largest force under the United Nations Comman. Were sent to defend South Korea from a communist invasion by North Korea. The monument shows two Filipino soldiers helping a wounded Korean comrade to symbolize the greatness of the Filipino spirit despite the war and the special camaraderie shared by the two nations. Both “Soul Waves and the Filipino-Korean Soldier Monument were erected side by side to celebrate The 60th Anniversary of Diplomatic Relationship between the Philippines and Korea as well as to symbolize joint efforts to protect freedom at all costs.
