The Himeji Castle is one of the oldest castles in Japan. It is the largest castle in Japan. It serves as an excellent example of prototypical Japanese castle architecture, containing many of the defensive and architectural features associated with Japanese castles. The structures of Himeji Castle are stone and wood. The curved walls are sometimes said to resemble giant fans. It is under renovation as of our visit 3-2011 but is still an AWESOME castle to visit. Himeji Castle was registered on December 11, 1993 as one of the first UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Japan. Here is the link for the UNESCO: (
