May 10, 1869 the Union and Central Pacific Railroads joined their rails at Promontory Summit. Golden Spike National Historic Site commemorates this incredible accomplishment of this nation's first transcontinental railroad.

I was lucky enough to participate in a reenactment here in 2008. I played the part of Arizona Governor Anson P.K. Safford. (I'm on the far right in the grey coat in the picture).

Golden Spike National Historic Site will be celebrating its 142nd anniversary of the "Joining of the Rails" celebration on May 10th, 2011. They also do reenactments throught the year.

Reenactments of the Last Spike Ceremony which took place on May 10, 1869 can be seen during the summer season. Volunteers portray the dignitaries who were here on that day in 1869. Come and be a part of history Saturdays and holidays from May 10 through Labor Day at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m

Golden Spike National Historic Site is located 32 miles west of Brigham City via State Highways 13 and 83.
