The Basilica del Santo Nino, which was built by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi and Fr.Andres de Urdaneta, houses the oldest and most celebrated Christian relic in the country - the image of Infant Jesus. The image was given by Fernando Magellan as a gift to local queen Humamai during her baptism on April 14th, 1521. She received the name Juana according Spanish king Charles´s mother.
After being destroyed by fire three times, the church was rebuilt in the stone in 1735.
The image of Santo Nino has the same shape as famous Bambino di Praga in Prague, Czech Republiác, Europe. The differ in the height only, the cebuano being 30,5 cm high, 17 cm the Czech one.
