Songahm Martial Arts Gate-

Grand Master H.U. Lee loved the State of Arkansas and the City of Little Rock, making this the home of WTTU/ATA/STF International Headquarters.  The rolling hills of tall, green pines and gorgeous lakes reminded him of South Korea, the start of his epic journey.  After his passing, his wife Mrs. Sun C. Lee wanted to honor the city with a gift.  The city also wanted to honor Grand Master and Mrs. Lee for their contributions to the community.  So together they agreed to bring a piece of South Korean culture from Grand Master's homeland to the place he chose to call home.

That magnificent expression of honor and mutual gratitude came in the form of a beautiful, traditional Korean gate weighing about eighty tons!  The wood for the gate was purchased in America and shipped to Korea for shaping.  The handcrafted wood, granite foundation, roof tiles and paint were then brought here.  Soon to follow were five separate teams from Kim Hae, South Korea, who assembled and painted the gate using high quality "old world craftsman" techniques.

The gate was constructed with no nails other than those beneath the clay tiles.  It is painted in primary, traditional colors of South Korea.  There are three openings with which to enter the gate.  The outer two are customarily for daily entrance, while the center doors are reserved for ceremonial occasions.  Look closely at the paintings on the gate and you will see dragons, lady drummers, birds, flowers, animals and many other items treasured in the culture of South Korea.

This functional work of art represents the respect, friendship and opportunity which Grand Master found here in central Arkansas.  We hope all who visit the H.U.
