Constitui uma região mineira que os romanos conheceram e exploraram, A exploração, com minas de ouro e de estanho, durou quase até ao primeiro qurtel do século XX. Há restos de escórias elevadas de água, para lavagem do ouro que vinham da serra de Montesinho.
O seu orago é S. Lourenço.
A Freguesia de França tem duas aldeias anexas, Montesinho (aldeia que dá nome ao Parque Natural de Montesinho) e Portelo a 500 m da fronteira com Espanha, onde se realiza todos os anos uma grande festa participada por ambos Portugueses e Espanhois.

[ENG]França (France in English) is a Portuguese small community in the district of Bragança. The population in 2001 is 275, its density is 4.9/km² and the area is 56.16 km².
It is a mining region that the Romans knew and exploited, the exploration of gold and tin, lasted almost until the first qurtel of the XX century. There are the remains of slag high water to wash the gold that came from the hills of Montesinho.
Their patron saint is St. Lawrence.
France has boundary with two villages, Montesinho (village which gives its name to the Natural Park Montesinho) and Portelo located 500 meters from the border with Spain.
