«Its Sailing School, still operating nowadays, and marked by some short interruption periods, started its activity in 1950.
For more than 40 years the School was responsible - with larger incidence in the last decade - for the training of many Portuguese sailors, some of them with national and international projection, and it is worth noticing not only the percentage of sailors of our Club that today belong to the Pre-Olympic Portuguese Teams, but also the number of those that more recently have been obtaining successes and honorable classifications in international competitions. Regarding this, two names stand out: Manuel Barros Pereira and Carlos Pantaleão.
In 1970 the Cascais Naval Club was responsible for the Finn Gold Cup; from then on, it has organized World and European championships of the classes Optimist, Laser, 470 and Star; particularly important was the 1995 Star European Championship, because sound names like Ross Macdonald (winner), Lawrie Smith, Torben Grael, Rod Davies and Raudasch were among the participants.
In 1997 the Club held the responsibility for the Absolute and Youth Laser European Championships (Standard), which had as winners Hugh Styles and Peter Walker. Ben Aislie and Peer Moberg, respectively Silver and Bronze Medals in the Atlanta Olympic Games, also participated.»
